In India, giving Dakshina (Dock-she-na) is the tradition to repay a teacher or priest after completion of a service given or in the case of Gurudakshina, after a period of study or the completion of formal education.This tradition is one of acknowledgement, respect, and thanks. It is a form of reciprocity and exchange, which is not exclusively monetary, and may be a special task requested by the one giving the service.
In the case of healing, giving dakshina creates a balance for the energy given by the healer to assist one in transforming their life's situation. It is recommended to give what you feel in your heart is fair exchange for what you are receiving.
